This course teaches students image-making for graphic design applications. Focusing on the development of conceptual thinking and problem-solving through the application of design methodology, the course explores how graphic designers use the computer both to draw and to manipulate images in the creation of various types of graphic design. The student will learn how to create and alter images utilizing Macintosh computers and the dominant graphics software in the field, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

This image-based course will introduce graphic design as the foundation upon which effective visual communication is built. Investigation of the elements and principles of graphic design will lead to specific design problems and their solution. The development of ideas and the ability to communicate them effectively will be covered. Discussion of both vector and bitmap-based digital graphic platforms will begin progress toward industry-standard computer proficiency.

It will include project-based learning of both vector and raster image creation. The class helps students develop their career path in a variety of fields in art and design.

Introduction to the computer program Adobe Illustrator and its' use as a tool to create and manipulate illustrations and graphic designs for the development of portfolio pieces.

This course provides an introduction to computer art and design. Students learn current digital tools and techniques using software such as the Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign, or current industry equivalent. This course introduces principles and elements of design such as color theory, composition, contrast and typography. There will be a focus on both print and digital outcomes, and the difference between the two will be explored.

(Students need no previous computer experience.) Introduction to the creation of art and imagery using computers and digital media. Production of a portfolio of images for presentation.
