A study of selected writing by and about people of African descent from the onset of the transatlantic slave trade to the end of Reconstruction. Genres may include folklore, petition, poetry, slave narrative, polemic, journalism, drama, and fiction--addressed to white and nonwhite audiences, in the US or throughout the globe.
